I maintain the LJ communities
tastycreations, where creative chefs can share their recipes; and
beyondpictures, a photographer's community designed to share information and technical info about photography.

Who I am ... well, I'm in my 30s, I live in Chicago by the lake with my cats. By day I am a mild-mannered office worker, but on the weekends I transform - *crash! bam! whap!* - into Photography Grrl or her sidekick Travel Writer Woman.
I'm independent, creative and occasionally silly. I like to read, write and create art (visual or theatrical) so I tend to surround myself with folks of a similar bent.
As Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "We do not quit playing because we grow old, we grow old because we quit playing."
If you friend me, please leave me a note. :) I like to know what made you want to be a part of my world.

ISTPs are adventurous and independent. They like to figure out how things work. They have great mechanical and technical skills. They live in the "here and now" which makes them adaptable and spontaneous. They like to keep busy and are action-oriented. ISTPs thrive on new and exciting situations.
People with Visual intelligence are artistic. They are very aware of their surroundings and are good at remembering images. They have a great sense of direction. They like to draw, paint and read maps. They learn best through drawings and visual aids.

My LJ is not "friends only", but I do liberally apply the use of filters, so if I know you personally, be sure to email me and let me know your LJ s/n so I can add you to my filters. Otherwise, addition to my filters is at my random discretion. :)![]() |

![]() "The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet." - J. Robert Oppenheimer ![]() "This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight... turbulence, and then explode." - Captain Mal, Serenity ![]() "The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings - words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out." - Stephen King ![]() "You know what I think was the one great thing I did? I went for it. I think that's the only thing I've done that was great. I sort of have the attitude: You don't want to be the bad in anybody's day. Unless of course, they deserve it."- Jon Stewart ![]() "I will not be just a tourist in the world of images, just watching images passing by which I cannot live in, make love to, possess as permanent sources of joy and ecstasy." - Anais Nin ![]() "They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance." - Terry Pratchett ![]() "When asked, 'How do you write?' I invariably answer, 'One word at a time.'" - Stephen King ![]() |
"The Monks of Cool, whose tiny and exclusive monastery is hidden in a really cool and laid-back valley in the lower Ramtops, have a passing-out test for a novice. He is taken into a room full of all types of clothing and asked: Yo, my son, which of these is the most stylish thing to wear? And the correct answer is: Hey, whatever I select." - Terry Pratchett ![]() "You're a great one for logic. I'm a great one for... rushing in where angels fear to tread. We're both extremists. Reality is probably somewhere in between." - Kirk to Spock, ST:IV "The Undiscovered Country" ![]() "We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit."- e. e. cummings ![]() "Death isn't online. If he was, there would be a sudden drop in the death rate. Although it'd be interesting to see if he'd post things like: DON'T YOU THINK I SOUND LIKE JAMES EARL JONES?" - Terry Pratchett ![]() "It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer shakes up the familiar scene, and, as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it." - Anaïs Nin ![]() "The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is mingled with grief, love grows perhaps the greater." - The Fellowship of the Ring, by J. R. R. Tolkien ![]() "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them." - Ray Bradbury ![]() |
